GOCC softball drops pair of games at Jackson
Vikings end the year 21-17.
Glen Oaks softball suffered two tough losses Saturday at Jackson College to close the regular season, falling 7-6 and 4-1. As a result, both teams finished even at 16-14 in the MCCAA Western Conference. However, the Jets won the season series 4-2, giving them the tiebreaker for third place over the Vikings. This also gave Jackson the final spot in the District A tournament.
In the 7-6 affair, both teams opened with solo runs in the first inning. Glen Oaks exploded with a five-run top of the third inning. The Jets slowly chipped away at the lead with solo spots in the third, fourth, and sixth innings. Jackson then took advantage of three errors in the seventh inning to score thrice and complete the rally.
Glen Oaks had eight hits with two apiece by Sierra Carpenter, Faith Kline, and Jaden Adams. Carpenter had a double, two RBI, and a run. Kline and Adams each had one RBI. Melina Ragotzy scored twice with one hit and two walks. Ava Mejia had a RBI single. Kacie Scott, Aimee Reinhardt, and Dakota Sigler each scored.
Mejia pitched six innings and struck out six while allowing six hits, six runs, three earned runs, and two walks. Sigler came in for relief but didn't record an out, allowing one hit and an unearned run.
The 4-1 contest was scoreless until Jackson plated three in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Jets added one more in the fifth. The lone Viking run came in the seventh inning as Adams scored on an error. Glen Oaks was held to two hits, both by Ragotzy.
Sigler pitched a complete game and struck out four over six innings. She allowed four hits, one walk, and four runs; all unearned.
Glen Oaks finishes the season with a 21-17 overall record.
