Vikings split home doubleheader with Jackson
Glenn Oaks honors outgoing players on Sophomore Day.
Glen Oaks softball split Friday's home doubleheader against Jackson College and recognized outgoing players with Sophomore Day festivities. The Jets took game one 11-5, followed by a 10-2 Viking victory in game two. Glen Oaks moves to 11-7 in the MCCAA Western Conference with the result, while Jackson moves to 11-9. The Vikings are 16-10 overall.
In the first game, Glen Oaks led initially with solo runs in the first and third innings. The Vikings also had a solo run in the fifth inning and two in the seventh. Jackson had one in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Jets then exploded with four in the sixth and another four in the seventh. Jackson outhit Glen Oaks 14-12.
Both Alea Fisher and Sierra Carpenter had three hit games with Fisher scoring twice. Kacie Scott smacked a solo home run and scored twice. Aimee Reinhardt had two hits and two RBI. Sierra Smith doubled and scored.
The Vikings went ahead with two runs in the first inning of Game 2. Jackson matched in the top half of the third, but Glen Oaks went back ahead with two runs to counter. The Vikings then unloaded with six runs in the fourth inning. The game was decided in five innings with Glen Oaks outhitting Jackson 11-6.
Reinhardt whacked two home runs and doubled, putting up four RBI and two runs. Brady Lesher tripled and singled, scoring three runs with three RBI. Sage Pruett doubled and singled, scoring twice with one RBI. Aubrey Mealor and Carpenter both doubled.
Ava Mejia was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts over a five inning complete game. She allowed six hits and two earned runs.
Glen Oaks is 2-2 against Jackson this season, as they split at JC back on March 30. The Vikings are right back at it hosting Marian University's Ancilla College for a Saturday doubleheader.
