The Jackson College Jets women's soccer team secured a berth in the 2017 NJCAA Region XII tournament with a 1-0 victory at Lake Michigan Red Hawks on Friday.

Freshman forward Kayler Beech found the back of the net on a high shot off a pass from sophomore forward Bailey Malthaner midway through the first half and a stifling defensive performance allowed that goal to stand up for the victory. The Jets came on strong on offense, taking 15 shots on the game to Lake Michigan's 4. The Jets had 5 corner kicks, compared to Lake Michigan's 4.

"We created some good scoring opportunities in the game, but what really impressed me was our defensive intensity. Lake Michigan got a good look very early that our goalkeeper Janae Willis made a nice stop on, but that was about it the rest of the game," said head coach Andy Hosmer.

Jackson has three regional games remaining, all key to seeding for the tournament at the end of October. "Obviously, we go into every game with the intent to win. But these final three games are crucial to where we get seeded and finishing as high in the region as I feel we deserve would also be nice to reward the team for their hard work this season."

Jets women's soccer record is 3-4 in league play, and 5-5 overall. Their next game will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 when they face Muskegon Community College at Columbia Central High School.
