Lady Vikings split with Jackson
GOCC rallies in Game 1, loses on a walk-off in Game 2 to Jets.
Glen Oaks softball split their Saturday doubleheader at Jackson College, winning game one 6-4 and losing game two 8-7. Following the results, the Vikings are second place in the MCCAA Western Conference standings at 6-4 and sit at 11-7 overall.
The first game saw an impressive rally. Glen Oaks had a lone run in the fifth inning and entered the final frame down 2-1. The Vikings exploded in the top of the seventh, going ahead with five runs. GOCC had three hits in the inning and took advantage of three Jet errors. Jackson got two back in the bottom half, but Glen Oaks held on for the 6-4 result.
Alea Fisher had two of the five Viking hits. Kacie Scott had a double and two runs. Aubrey Mealor had a hit, run, and RBI. Sierra Smith singled with two RBI.
Aimee Reinhardt was the starting pitcher, striking out five over four innings. She allowed five hits, two runs, two earned runs, and one walk. Dakota Sigler tossed the final three innings with one hit, two runs, one earned run, two walks, and one strikeout.
The Vikings were bit by a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning for an 8-7 loss.
Glen Oaks outhit the Jets 16-10 in the contest and got things going early with a triple by Kacie Scott, a Dakota Sigler single and a Brady Lesher hit to put up three runs in the top of the first. Glen Oaks tacked on two more in the second and went up 6-0 in the fifth before the Jets began their rally.
Jackson scored four runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Sierra Smith led the GOCC bats with four hits (one double), Sigler (one double) recorded three and Aubrey Mealor had two. Alea Fisher, Aimee Reinhardt, Lesher, Scott, Faith Kline and Melina Ragotzy each had one. Smith also stole two bases.
Ava Mejia threw five innings and surrendered just two hits and no runs with a trio of strikeouts. Brenna Meyer took the loss with six earned runs allowed on seven hits in 1 ⅔ innings of work. Sigler collected two outs with one hits and one earned run allowed.
