Men' soccer and Jets battle to draw

The Lakers men's soccer team played host to the Jackson Jets today and came up with a scoreless draw. The first half was a back and forth affair. The Lakers controlled much of the first 20 minutes and created a few scoring opportunities. The best opportunity came from Adan Tejada as he rung one off the post about 18 minutes into the match. The Jets would pick up their play as the half wore on and also create some scoring opportunities.  The Lakers defense and keeper Till Oppermann were able to lock down the Jets though as the teams went into the break scoreless. The second half started with the Jets controlling the play and creating some early scoring opportunities. Again, the Lakers defense was equal to the task. Lakeland was able to pick up their play as the half wore on as both teams continued to play up and down the field. As the game continued, the intensity from both teams grew. There was a large number of fouls called in the second half and 5 yellow cards were given between the teams. The Lakers continued to battle to the very end of the game and secured a corner with under 30 seconds to play. In a last effort, the teams battled for the ball off the corner before the Jets knocked the ball out of bounds to force another corner. Unfortunately for the Lakers, time expired before they could get off another try.

The number of shots favored the Jets 14-11. Till Oppermann was credited with 7 saves for the Lakers.

Mayer's Mentions: "We continue to work hard. We played pretty good defense and certainly had some scoring opportunites.  We'll continue to work in practice and come out ready to play on Wednesday."

Next Up: The Lakers will play host to the Lorain County Commodores on Wednesday (9/20) at 3:00 pm.
