August 28, 2022 - - The Lorain County Community College volleyball team competed in the Owens Invitational in Perrysburg, Ohio this weekend, hosted by Owens Community College.
After taking the first match in dominating fashion against the Jackson College Jets (2-1), they fell to the St. Clair County Community College Skippers (7-3) in four sets and came out on the wrong end of a five-set thriller with the Mott Community College Bears (4-3) after winning the first two sets.
Leading the way for the Commodores was Chelsey Farris (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS), who combined to have 42 kills on the day, including a 20-kill effort against Mott. Farris also had nine blocks (six solos, three assisted) and five service aces on the afternoon.
Izabel Gallardo-Santo Domingo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) had 66 digs, leading or co-leading the Commodores in every match.
Maggie Riley (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) had 97 assists in the three matches, including a team-high seven services aces.
LCCC returns to the Ewing Activities Center this Tuesday when they welcome the two-time defending NJCAA DIII Champion Owens Community College. The match begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $5, and students with LCCC ID get in for free.
