Lakers men's soccer triumphs in opener

The Lakeland men's soccer team traveled to Jackson Community College today to take on the Jets in a Region XII matchup. The Lakers came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory to kick off their season. Lakeland's first goal came on a terric cross from Adan Tejada. Xander Bergiers one touched it into the net for the Laker's first goal of the season with 20 minutes to play in the first half.

The Laker's second goal was scored when Abdul Mubarak beat a Jackson player 1v1 and then ripped a shot from 25 yards out to give Lakeland a 2-0 lead with 36:12 to play in the second half. Jackson scored a goal with 23:50 to play to cut the lead in half, but the Lakers fought hard to hold on to the win.

Dominic Grobler played well in net and helped key the win saving 5 shots on goal.

Next Up: The Lakers play host to Ancilla College on Saturday (9/3). Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
