BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana LHP Caleb Baragar was the first Hoosier taken off the draft board, as he went to the San Francisco Giants in the ninth round and the 275th overall pick on Friday evening.

Baragar becomes the 85th IU Baseball draft pick. Indiana, which has seen 16 of its players taken in the first 15 rounds since 2009, has now had 15 players taken in the last four years.

Baragar served as IU's Sunday starter through the first seven weekends of the season before making the start in the last eight Saturday contests. He made 27 career starts in a Hoosier uniform, including 15 starts in 2016. A native of Jenison, Mich., Baragar posted a 2.88 career ERA at Indiana, as opponents hit just .216 off him. He allowed 114 hits over 143.2 innings and struck out 124 for his career.

The Southpaw finished 2016 fourth in the Big Ten in opposing batting average (.205), tied for fifth in ERA (2.49), 11th in strikeouts (74) and 13th in innings pitched (86.2). Entering Super Regional weekend, Baragar is in the top 100 nationally in ERA, hits allowed per nine innings, and WHIP, which he ranks 37th in (1.00).
