Talent runs deep with Jets women's 2017-18 basketball team

Jackson College's women's 2017-18 women's basketball team brings a lot of talent to the upcoming season.

The team's roster includes five returning sophomores and eight freshman. Forward Chelsea Palmer, a 6-foot forward from Brooklyn, led the Jets in scoring last season at 14.4 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. She was named to the MCCAA All Freshman Team and Second Team All-Conference last season. Palmer is a Columbia Central graduate who garnered numerous awards in basketball and track throughout high school.

Additional returning sophomores include:

  • Guard Sydney Brown, Port Huron High graduate who received numerous awarded in the Macomb Area Conference. Last season she averaged 7.3 points per game and 2.6 rebounds per game;
  • Guard Zoe Glass, Mason High graduate who was a standout in basketball and track and a Women's National Golden Glove champion and Junior Olympic champion in boxing. Last season she averaged 8.3 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.
  • Guard/forward Kelsey Underhile, Stockbridge High graduate, standout in basketball in the Greater Lansing Athletic Conference. Last season she averaged 3.3 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per game.
  • Guard/forward Anastasia Ramos, Wyoming High graduate who averaged 4.4 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game last season.

Talent runs deep among the newcomers to the Jets include two who were players of the year for their respective counties, guard Arjanae Morgan, Kalamazoo Central High graduate, and guard Claire Klintworth, Vandercook Lake High graduate. Coming off strong high school seasons/careers are:

"This will be my first season with an entire team of players that I recruited," said Heather Brown, head coach. "I am looking to improving our record and continuing to bring in quality students athletes who like to compete. I want to make Jackson College a place to build on skills and get players to the next level if they want it."

In addition to their time on the courts, Jets players also participate in volunteer work. "We want our players to be well-rounded citizens," she said.

Brown is in her third season with the Jets. Assistant coach is LaTashia Pratt, now in her second season with the Jets. In the 2016-17, the Jets were 6-12 in the MCCAA Conference, 11-17 overall.

The Jets will play at Mott Community College at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, and their conference opener will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Schoolcraft College.
